My Pregnancy: Week 13

About our baby: At 13 weeks gestation, baby is the size of a medium shrimp, at almost 3 inches long and weighing nearly an ounce. S/he now has fingerprints on your his/her tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head — which makes up just a third of her body size now.

About me: I was hoping that hitting 12 weeks meant magical relief to my morning/all day sickness, but it’s still lingering! Hopefully I’ll get some relief soon. The past week did bring a bunch more energy (yay!) and heartburn (boo!). Since this is really my last pregnancy, I’m trying to enjoy every minute of it, vomiting and all.

Fun facts:

Weeks pregnant: 13 weeks.

Weight: down 7 pounds from pre-preg weight

Physical crap: Getting up in the middle of the night to pee pretty much sucks and has become a nightly thing. Heartburn has been very annoying and the all day sickness is still kicking my butt.

What I want to devour: Fruits- mainly strawberries, bananas, and raspberries. Salads with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Water. Nom.

What makes me want to hurl: Um.. Everything else?

Birthy Stuff: I’m so very excited about our birth center and midwives. They are everything I wanted in a birth center, Victorian, very homey feel, and very laid back, super friendly, and in love with birth. We have decided on a water birth which I am super excited about. I remember during my second pregnancy I was terrified at the thought of labor/delivery but this time I’m actually looking forward to it!

I am still trying to convince DH that we don’t need to find out the sex of the babe in a few weeks but he insists that we do so we can plan.

Lets see…. We opted out of the 1st tri screening so our first, and only, ultrasound will be around 18 weeks. I’m meeting with a birth photographer this week to potentially hire to capture our birth. I’m starting to build my newborn diaper stash (oh do I have SO many questions!) and I cannot wait to cloth a newborn!

Things my kids say: The boys are extremely excited about the baby, especially Adam. He was laying in bed, snuggling with me last night and he said “I so excited for your baby. I want a baby girl. I want two babies.” Ah, I love him. Lucas loves to pull up my shirt to kiss the baby, although I’m not quite sure he really understands what’s going on.

Looking forward to: Our next prenatal is on the 12th and I can’t wait to hear our babes heartbeat again!

I’m close to 12 weeks, and I can definitely relate to the morning sickness. Some days are good, but it’s pretty rare. Ginger Root supplements and Morning Wellness Tea by Earth Angel Baby helps somewhat.

I remember being there. getting up to pee so so so sucked. Now I’m dealing with a just about 1year old and all the joy that that brings. The Peanut is 4 1/2 years older than our Bean and watching the love and adoration that passes between them makes my heart bigger each time I see it. I bet your boys will be pretty much the same.

  12. I’m so sorry you’re feeling so bad! I look forward to following your pregnancy online.
