I did not have the knowledge I do today regarding baby products when I purchased Kenzie’s baby items. Thus, I ended up with many items that were minimally used, returned and/or donated. Kenzie’s mattress was just purchased online based on it being soy and eco-friendly. However, when I received it I was a bit surprised by the plastic coating/outside and hardness. I attribute Kenzie’s poor sleeping habits due to my purchase mistake. Natural Mat sent us the Latex Mat and Top Mat and there is a world of difference in quality from the current mattress.
First of all, the Latex Mat isn’t covered in plastic coating. Moreover, it is rather hefty in weight compared to the old mattress (it seems to be 4x heavier). I like that there is a removable mattress cover for easy washing. Organic Rubber Latex is used for the springy core which is surrounded by lawyers of organic coir for maximum support. The coir is wrapped in organic lambswool (natural yet able to maintain thermal insulation).
The crib mattress is maturally hypo allergenic and completely non-toxic with no polyethylene! Kenzie usually cosleeps on our mattress which is made of memory foam. The new latex mat has the same feeling of the memory foam but in a crib size. Kenzie immediately took to the latex mat and napped/slept on it for hours. Not only is the latex mat made of organic materials to please mama, Kenzie found it much more appealing to rest on compared to her stiff, plastic mattress. Although the mattress will be given to Bean #2 (plastic mattress has been banished) when he arrives, Kenzie will get to enjoy it for a couple more months before transitioning into a big girl bed.
Since purchasing an organic mattress is an investment if you already have a crib mattress, Natural Mat has come out with the Top Mat to “organify” your current mattress. It’s an economical way of having your tot sleep on organic materials without having to splurge on an entire new mattress. The Top Mat is also great for travel or visiting friends/family because it rolls up conveniently. We are attending a friend’s wedding up north and will be bringing this along for Kenzie to sleep on. The Top Mat contains two layers of organic lambswool with a breathable overlay. The entire top mat is machine washable (score!) and chemical free(definitely a must have for your precious tots).
The lambswool used in both the Latex Mat and Top Mat is treated with essential oils including lavender, lemon and eucalyptus, which offer protection against bed bugs and dust mites. This is a wonderful plus especially for those with allergies.
I highly recommend spending the extra on a mattress that is organic made with quality materials for your baby. There really is a difference in the sleep patterns of the child and your peace of mind for a safe mattress free of chemicals. I learned there is no polyethylene which is awesome and SO hard to find (even with organic mattresses, one of the most popular ones has it). I’ve added them to my listing of top mattresses to buy if you want “true” organic instead of “it says organic on the box” organic because they would have been super high on my list if I had heard of them when I was shopping! The organic mattress protectors would be great! I’m not a fan of the plastic ones that are crinkly.

OK, and I like that the mat is completely chemical free.
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for! My 20 month old son was diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder 5 months ago and we have since been replacing as many items he uses as possible to ones that don’t have yucky chemicals in them. We are currently detoxifying some of the chemicals in his body and I’d hate to think that the work we are doing is being counteracted when he sleeps. Thank you for offering such a wonderful product.

I honestly have never thought about organic crib products until seeing this post. It makes perfect sense though.
I love the top mat! I love thats organic and has the essential oils in it. My hubby has bad allergies so i bet our son will too. This would be perfect for him!
