We often fear what we don’t know. Stepping out of my comfort zone and delving into a new tech toy for the past month has been challenging and fun. As I Sprint Mom (holla!) I was given the opportunity to review two of the hottest devices on the market: the new Motorola smartphone, the Moto X, and the fitbit Flex.

Moto X: The Deets

Moto X , the first smartphone designed, engineered and assembled in the United States. Powered by Android™ 4.2.2, Jelly Bean, Moto X makes it so easy to search the Web and snap photos with features like Touchless Control and Quick Capture.

moto x review

Sprint currently carries two colors of the Moto X, white and black. White is my go-to color of choice when it comes to phones so I was elated to receive a white Moto X from Sprint for review. Great features of Moto X include:

  • Touchless Control – Without touching the phone at all, you can check the weather, get directions, or do just about anything—just by saying “OK Google Now” because it learns their voice and with the power of Google Now, Moto X doesn’t guess like other phones do.

Wondering if you’ll need an umbrella today? Or if there’s a great sushi place nearby? Ask Google! When you first start up Moto X, you are asked for a voice sample so the phone knows who you are and only responds to you. I was pleasantly surprised with how well the feature functioned. I can ask Google Now for just about anything, all while hands-free so it’s a lifesaver, especially while driving!

  • Motorola Assist – Moto X knows when you’re driving. That way, it can read out who is calling or texting so you can keep your attention on the road.
  • Motorola Connect – Read and reply to texts, and see who’s calling your Moto X directly from your computer’s Chrome browser. All without ever having to reach for your phone.
  • Dual Cameras: 10 MP rear-facing camera with LED flash, 4 X digital zoom and video capture, 2 MP front-facing with video capture.
  • Sprint TV® and Movies, with more than 15 channels of live sports, live breaking news and full episodes of the most popular daytime, primetime and kids entertainment.
  • Sprint Music Plus, a full-featured music store and player for music tracks, ringtones, and ringback tones, including millions of DRM-free music tracks and tones updated daily.

My Thoughts…

As a long time iPhone user and lover of Apple in general, getting used to the Moto X and android platform was quite challenging. It took a couple of weeks to get used to the differences between the two. Could an iPhone gal like myself love the Moto X? Absolutely. While it’s not a user friendly and “basic” as what I am used to, the Moto X brings a lot to the table.

The Quick Capture feature is easily my favorite thing about the Moto X. As a mom of three littles, we are go go go constantly and if I’m messing around trying to whip out the camera – I often miss out on capturing a memory. With two twists of the wrist, Moto X is ready to shoot. No more blurry, late shots, Moto X quickly captures beautiful, crisps shots of life that are definitely share worthy.

There IS an app for that!

Going from Apple to Android, I was a bit hesitant mostly because I love my apps. I was worried I wouldn’t find the apps that I use most on my iPhone in the Android Marketplace but I was wrong! My favorite apps: Instagram, PayPal, Facebook, Snap Chat, You Tube, are all available for download in the Play Store. Including, an app for my new fitbit Flex!

I’ve heard amazing things about the fitbit Flex so I was very excited to test it out. The fitbit just seems to go with my go go go lifestyle. I can easily track my fitness each day, with no effort at all. The fitbit Flex tracks steps taken, calories burned, and distance walked each day. When purchased at Sprint, you’ll have unlimited data – which makes it convenient to sync your fit bit data on-the-go without worrying about overages on your wireless bill.

Get ‘Em!

Moto X and fitbit Flex would make excellent gifts for the busy mom or dad in your life! Visit Sprint for product information and current prices!

We are close to getting to the renewal period, so this review came in handy. We are not with Sprint, but it’s nice to know we can now consider this one of our options.

  3. thanks for the review!

  4. Britni Bradford says:

the fitbit Flex looks very cool! It’s not bulk or ugly. I would totally wear that. Would love to track steps.

  5. I LOVE that it can tell when you are driving! How cool!

  6. Such a cool looking phone! And GREAT picture quality! The Fitbit Flex gadget is pretty nifty too! :)

  7. I am thinking about getting an iPhone too because I’m so used to using the iPad.

  8. It is exactly what you would expect if you slapped the Android OS on to a Black –
Berry. The void for your prospects may be caused by lack of time, competing priorities, lack of balance in their lives or a myriad
of other issues. Motorola has been one the frontrunners in this
    market.
